A former mansion in the heart of New Jersey holds secret surprises for all
Kids and adults work together to explore surprising galleries filled with mechanical music boxes, dinosaurs, mammals, minerals, Native Americans, model trains, and more. A major highlight is the Guinness Collection of 60 centuries-old mechanical musical instruments and automatons, featuring monkey musicians, Asian acrobats, magicians, and more, all wound up and seen performing. You’ll also investigate stegosaurus tracks, a stuffed bear, rocks that glow in Christmas colors, and a scary Iroquois mask.
Your team will search for answers to such questions as...
• Find a French leader having a barrel of fun. What kind of cake might its maker prefer? Black forest cake (the barrel organ featuring Napoleon among dancing figures was made in Black Forest, Germany, according to a plaque)
• In Europe, what could you call a kidney stone? Hermatite, a variety of kidney ore displayed in the Rocks & Minerals exhibition
• Who went to Hell and back for an impressive exhibit in the Dinosaur Den? Barnum Brown found the T-rex skull (a model is displayed here) in the Hell Creek region of Montana.
