Princeton Meeting Place Information

Bring Your E-Ticket and/or Confirmation Number to the Hunt: After you complete your online ticket purchase, you will see an on-screen “e-ticket” that you should print out and bring to the hunt. If you purchase tickets over the phone, you will receive a confirmation number that you should bring to the hunt. You must have a valid e-ticket or confirmation number to participate in the hunt. You will also receive an e-mail receipt of your purchase. No tickets will be sold at the hunt. If you need to purchase tickets, return to the Hunt Schedule.

Meeting Place: The main meeting place will be at the front gates to the Princeton University campus, on Nassau Street at Witherspoon Street, at the heart of “downtown” Princeton. There, look for our crew in burgundy Watson Adventures caps. See below for more information on getting to the meeting place.

Meeting Time: Please be at the meeting place ready to hunt by the time on the Hunt Schedule.

What if the Weather Is Horrible? At least two hours before the hunt, we will have an announcement on the Hunt Hotline if we are forced to cancel the hunt due to bad weather: Call 877-9-GO HUNT, extension 12. If the hunt is canceled, call us or e-mail us to reschedule to another date.

Forming a Team: The hunt is played on teams of up to six people. You can bring your own team and hunt with as few as two on a team, or we can help you band together with kindred spirits at the start of the hunt. Over the years, we’ve found that “pick up” teams often have the most fun, not just because the hunt is a bit easier with more brains working on the questions, but also because the hunters have fun getting to know each other. Your team can have more than six people, but you will not be eligible to win a prize. But maybe that’s not your priority anyway! The main objective is to have fun.

Prizes: Each member of the winning team will receive a prize (it’s a sur-prize). Plus if you fill out a survey after the hunt, you’ll be eligible to win free admission to a future hunt.

How to Prepare: Be comfortable! Don’t carry anything heavy, and definitely wear comfortable shoes! If the weather is hot, bring water or money to buy a beverage during the hunt—you’ll pass many places to buy food and drink.

Getting to Princeton: The university has a very helpful page on its site to guide you. See www.princeton.edu/main/visiting/travel/. The site includes driving directions, links to train schedules, and an interactive campus map: select “Nassau Hall” to find the building opposite the main gates and the meeting place; select “Dinky Station” to see where the train terminates.

Parking: Believe it or not, the town of Princeton has a Web site devoted just to parking: see www.princetonparking.org. The meeting place is at the intersection of Nassau and Witherspoon Streets, near the prominent number 6 on the site’s map. Parking may be available at or near the Dinky station, from which you can follow the walking directions below to the starting point.

More Tips on Traveling by Train: Take New Jersey Transit, via the Northeast Corridor line, departing from Penn Station in Manhattan, or from Penn Station in Philadelphia. Before boarding, buy tickets to Princeton. Get off the train at the stop called Princeton Junction, and at the back of the platform board the one-car shuttle train—locally known as the Dinky—that will take you on a short ride to Princeton and the edge of the campus.

Getting from the Shuttle to the Meeting Place: Here is the easiest route from the station to the starting point, and to the town’s main drag: Walk in the direction the train was going, straight into campus, parallel to the nearby street. Follow the slate path straight through gates, heading toward a huge staircase below a castle-like tower with a clock. Go up those steps, then go straight, heading diagonally across an open space with a particularly imposing building with sculptural reliefs to the left. Just after Henry Moore’s donut-like bronze sculpture, turn left. You’ll see the main gate and the meeting place just ahead, a bit to the right, in front of Nassau Hall. Ask anyone for directions if you get disoriented. There are lots of interesting stores and places to eat along Nassau Street, just outside the gate.
